As it says in the picture....this is a very large painting  done with a brush. Painted, as best I can recall,  in1991 or '92. I was obsessed with celtic knotwork and had been doing that in black ink for some time. This marked the end of that phase.

The picture represents the hero at a time when he lay under an enchantment spun by the sea-goddess,  Fand ( here shown in the guise of a white Gannett ). She had fallen in love with him and held him in her power for some time.  The great goddess of war, The Morrigan, is shown as one of her ravens.  Chuchulain was her beloved god-child and a great maker of corpses for her, until they fell out...but that's too long a story.  The hero's wife and his best friend Fergus are desolate as he lies in a state between life and death while their enemies, hearing that he was no longer a threat, mass at the gates......
